How FRCN-UK Came into Being
The Chinese Christian Faculty Network in the USA is sponsored by Ambassador for Christ. and Prof Andrew KS Chan and his wife Sophia, who are responsible for that Network, visited the UK in March 2005. Subsequently, it was felt that there should be a similar Network for the UK, sponsored by COCM, and FRCN-UK was initiated with a consultation in Nov. 2005.
The Network is for those working in the universities and institutes of higher education (post A level), including research fellows and post doctors, as well as professors and lecturers, i.e. everyone except the students. The Network is mainly for sharing and mutual support, rather than direct engagements and activities. Faculty and researchers led very busy lives and there are limitations in what one can do in secular university environment. The Network should encourage and facilitate Christians to make a start in bearing witness for Christ. The Network is for the Chinese, but not exclusively. It should include those in the academia who have a special concern for those from China. Both Chinese (Mandarin) and English will be used. Members are open to faculty members and researchers. Others sharing our aims but not university and college professionals can become Associate Members.
The minimum requirement for membership is a willingness to have their names posted on our website, together with a brief personal description as a professional and as a Christian.
